Joomla For Car Dealers – Using Joomla to Build Car Dealer Websites

November 18, 2012

Joomla is a free, open source content management system that is the most popular software program of its kind available on the internet today. Open source means that any third party can write an extension to the core components of the software which will then expand the software’s capabilities. Because of this, the possibilities and capabilities of the initial Joomla core software are absolutely endless.

This software program is easy to use. You don’t have to be extremely knowledgeable in computers, programming, etc or you don’t have to be an IT expert to operate this software program. It is built to be used by computer illiterate people as well. It is pretty self explanatory and as long as you follow the steps, you will be able to do pretty much anything with this software program.

Joomla is the perfect software to build a Car Dealer website. The options for use on the site are limitless. You can upload as many pictures as you want. On the back end of the website, you will be able to manage every aspect of the website with ease. Joomla has already been used for projects such as this and proves to be the best choice.

This software program is absolutely free for you to download. The newest version, Joomla 1.5, would probably be your best bet. Even though the version1.0 is still available, the long term use can be limited since designers are beginning to focus more on v. 1.5. This all means that they are not designing as many extensions for v. 1.0 as they are the 1.5 version. You will be able to use version 1.5 for a longer period of time before you will have to completely upgrade your entire website.

There are thousands of available extensions for the software on the web. Most of these you can acquire for free. Some you may have to purchase. Basically, this all means, that you can customize your website to best suit your needs and to make it unique, compared to others. Even though you may use templates and pre-existing extensions that have been downloaded and installed on thousands of websites across the internet, you can still develop a truly unique website.

The template that you decide to use will help to define the layout and style of your website. So, what kind of “feel” are you going for? Nine chances out of 10, the “feel” you are looking for has already been developed and is available somewhere on the web. You can choose between Flash templates and plain Jane templates. The choice is yours. When trying to locate your template, search for Realtor templates, as there is a wide variety of these templates that are already available and will represent your business in the best possible way. Don’t forget that you can customize a template that has been downloaded 500 times already by adding modules, plugins, components and more.

Have fun developing your website using the Joomla open source software. In the end, you’ll be glad that you decided to use Joomla and not the others.

3 Methods on How to Install Joomla

March 9, 2010

Since the year 2005, Joomla has branched out and path the way for end users who want to create websites easily without learning programming languages like HTML, PHP or database languages. If you have been a Webmaster who rely heavily on coding to create websites, you may find some motivation to switch to this user-friendly Content Management System (CMS). However, if you are entirely new to web development and is looking for a software (particularly free) that helps you to create website easily, Joomla is the solution you will love. In this article, I will share 3 ways on how you can install Joomla and start using this powerful CMS.

The first method, which is also the easiest, is to install Joomla directly using a widely popular software, CPanel. Most web hosting companies provide CPanel as an interface for you to manage your hosting. An average hosting plan for Joomla requirement would cost around $10 per month. Once you have sign up yourself a web hosting account, you can log into the CPanel and access an option known as fantastico. You will find Joomla 1.5 as a selection once you click on the fantastico link.

After selecting the Joomla 1.5 option, all you need to do is to follow the wizard and enter your user name and password. This is the easiest method to install Joomla because you do not even have to bother about the creation of database as it is created automatically for you. I strongly recommend this method for beginners.

The second method is what I call the manual install. This is how most users install Joomla on their servers especially if their servers do not support CPanel. This second method is pretty complicated and the complete steps can be found in the official Joomla website. To sum it up, you can follow the steps below as a general guide:

1. Download the latest Joomla version from
2. Upload the zip file to your server and unzip it.
3. Create a database and grant it a user with full privileges.
4. Access your website URL and follow the installation wizard.

The final method is meant for people who wants to test out Joomla in their local computers before putting it up live in the Internet. For this method, you would need to install a server in your computer because Joomla cannot run solely on a browser. An easy approach is to download XAMPP and install this software in your computer. XAMPP will create a server environment and allows you to run Joomla without any problems. There are also other alternatives for server installation but so far I find that XAMPP does a pretty good job overall. It is also easy to pick up and does not require much technical knowledge. However, please be warned that if you are not a IT savvy person, it is difficult for you to handle XAMPP unless you are wiling to put in a significant amount of time to learn.

In conclusion, I would recommend you to try out the first method especially if you have access to a server with CPanel software. Joomla installation can be quite frustrating especially when you do not know what went wrong. I hope that this article will help you out in deciding a suitable approach for your Joomla installation.
