Using my web design with database solution like Joomla, WordPress. or similar?

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011
So I am a web designer, I design web sites in Photoshop and then I create HTML code. I am great with static web sites but I am not very good at web programming (PHP) and I would like to learn it but really cannot find much time for it lately. So my question is is there a way for me to create my own design in Photoshop/Dreamweaver and then use my own design with CMS solutions like WordPress, Joomla etc… The point is I want to create database websites and update them trough CMS but have my own design used and not those templates that you can find on web for Joomla for example. So is this possible and which CMS solution do you recommend: Joomla, WordPress or some other? Thanks

Basic Joomla Article Submission Question?

Sunday, August 28th, 2011
I have created a joomla site for the first time and love it! I am not getting any response to this in their forum so hopefully YA can help.

I am creating a site for a school and the principle wants to allow staff to submit articles, but not be posted until she approves them. I found out how to link to an article submission form, but when I tried it out and submitted an article, nothing happened. I mean it shows up unpublished in the article manager…but how would the principle know someone submitted an article? Does she get an email or something? because I am currently set as the super administrator and I did not get any type of notification. So how does this work?

Need help with joomla template?

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Hi, ive just installed joomla, and am about to purchase an expensive template from joomlajunkie.com, but the thing is, i’m not sure about the template’s full potential,

This is the template demo

http://www.joomlajunkie.com/demo/index.php?template=ario

I’m want to add an affiliate script, flash ad banners, news feed, forms, blog links and alot of mini gifs in the sidebar, in other words, like a portal.

Is this possible with this template? can it be modified to add the said extensions? or joomla extensions?

Problem with Installing Joomla?

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

I am trying to install Joomla, but as soon as I have uploaded the files and go to index.php it says you must remove Installation folder before you can continue. But I haven’t installed it yet? Anyone got any ideas?
Hi Guys

Cheers for the help. I understand that I have to re the installation folder once I have gone through the installation process of linking it to the database etc. The problem I am having is that I cann’t get to the installation process that you normally go through, and then delete the installation folder afterwards. Instead as soon as I upload the file it says delete the installation folder before the process is ran. Hope that makes sense

Problems with making menus on Joomla Optimus template?

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Hi I recently started using Joomla at school and I chosen the Optimus template. I made up a main menu and when I previewed it the menu only showed up on the left side and the category links that I have set up as children to the section options don’t pull out or even indent when on their parent’s page. Then I changed the menu to the top, the child links don’t drop down at all when hovering or clicking on them. I also tried adding a side bar main menu that has the same options and it doesn’t even show up, just the menu title showed up. Yet when I did a class tutorial on the milky way template it automatically added a top menu and left menu when I entered each link in the module mgr. How can I fix this or do I have to upgrade and purchase the advanced version to get the proper drop-downs to work? If so, where can I get a very simple template that will do what the Optimus would do if I paid for the premium package? I don’t want to use any of joomla’s 3 default templates since the assignment requires us to download a free working 3rd party template from here at the shack or Joomla24 where most of them aren’t free. This project is due in 2 days. I’m really hoping that someone can help me out here since I’m in a jam considering that I’m swamped with 4 other large projects to complete by week’s end.

Thanks

Joomla or WordPress for phpBB3?

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

I wish to build a website that has phpBB3 integration, with user integration being my top priority. I want to be able to login on the front page, with information like your name and avatar displayed in that area after login. I would like to know whether Joomla or WordPress handles this task better.

Please do not try to get me to use a different forum. However, if you have a better free CMS choice that would work, I’m all ears.

Thank you.
Yes, I know that Answerer #1. However, people have found means of integrating, or “piecing”, them together. Both Joomla and WordPress can be CMSs.

WordPress has WP-United to do this, and I’ve heard of Joomla having several. However, I want to know which does it best.
Glenn W — Yes, I know. There are a few different ones for Joomla if I recall correctly. Could you specify one, and perhaps a reason why it’s better than its WordPress competition? That’s what this question I posted is all about.

Joomla help please ?

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010
I have created a database onto file manager this morning I followed all the instructions then when it came to entering the site with the user name and password I typed them in and it said they was wrong to I tried other relevant user name and passwords and that didn’t work. So I then deleted joomla from file manager and now when i upload it it appears with the page where i have to delete the Installation file and when I do that I get this message on the website:

jtablesession::store failed
DB function failed with error number 1146
Table ‘owen66hu_lisamariewebsite.jos_session’ doesn’t exist SQL=INSERT INTO `jos_session` ( `session_id`,`time`,`username`,`gid`,`guest`,`client_id` ) VALUES ( ‘b8ab5aca01fc36f94a66a4c9d00bed57′,’1258932637′,”,’0′,’1′,’1′ )

Thank you in advance !! : )

Mambo and Joomla guys, please HELP?

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

I want a content management that is similar to Joomla! or Mambo. It should be an open source application.

I want to use it for apartment listing. It should be able to classify the search results into what the client wants. For example, I will be listing 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom houses. It should be able to display results according to what the client has entered.

It should also be able to list according to suburbs within the town I plan to use the website for. If it is possible that I can get a Mambo plug-in that will allow mw to to that, please supply me with the info

good free hosting which supports joomla?

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

I’d like to install and try out the newer Joomla 1.5, but don’t have an “extra site to play with” in order to install and manage content with it. I’m into web design by choice, but I’d like to play with it to see how it works as a CMS.

Do you know of any free hosting sites (or cheap) where I can install and run Joomla on their linux server?

essentially, I’m not sure if the free hosting’s ad supported deal is compatible. so if you know if a cheap hosting place -ANYTHING BUT GODADDY- that i can seamlessly run joomla on, I’d appreciate it.
