I recently got handed a project that will require a new CMS. Currently the site that I need to update is running on Plone. I’ve been researching other CMS’s and found Joomla to be a good match for what this company wants.

I was wondering if there was some way of importing the current sites SQL into Joomla? I’m more of a front end programmer and have little working knowledge of SQL or Apache or the like and was curious if there is an Ap or an extension I can use to perform something like this.

Hello,

I would like to ask you all about the CMS, Joomal and Drupal. I am pllaning to create a community

site, it is not only the community but I also would like to add many more fatures to it. But I

wish to complete this soon, so I prefer to use any CMS.

I searched on net and find that by using Joomla it is possible to create Community Based site.

what about Drupal ? I am a beginner to these CMS but have good experience on PHP Development.

Which is better on your opinion Jommla or Drupal?
Which one offer variety of Modules or components ?
Which one is easy to install and configure?

I wish to use this CMS to create a community site, a froum, blog shopping cart and also want to add my site features to it.

Which is better in all the ways, if I need to expand in future.

Hi, I need a CMS that allows for:

(1) registering users, (login/passwords), each able set a profile (with attributes, like picture, education ec)
(2) integrate with paypal, so only after the person who wants to register pays the registeration fee, then open their account
(3) allow to filter or summarize them by attributes. (e.g. (4) people have height more than 180 cm, and clicking on it would show the names and attributes of the 4).

Which CMS is better for this? Drupal? Joomla? others? (phpnuke etc)

this question is two fold. first i would like to know is joomla the best way to start learning web development? do i need to learn html/css first. i would also like to learn php/mysql and other languages like perl,python,java,.net. can i implement all those into Joomla.
second is do i need to purchase a domain or get a free one like co.cc or get a free webhost and use there subdomain? also another option is to get xampp and use that as localhost and do it that way.
also are there any good resources online to learn these things. please share. thanks for looking

I am running a website with Joomla 1.5. When users register on the site it doesn’t bring up a page telling them to check their emails for a verfication code (Even though it sends one), it just sends the user back to the home page. I heard that is usually tells the user to check their email for the verfication URL. I have even tried crawling into the .php files trying to find a way to add a line into the registration page telling users to check their mail and spam box. Any help achieving this will be greatly appreciated

Is it possible to “download” my joomla site (currently online, version 1.015) back to localhost, for migration to 1.5 purpose. as I do not want to do the migration “live” with the online site just incase something goes wrong, I prefer to do it locally and then upload all the site again. I tried installing joomla 1.015 in local host, downloading and importing the online database to wamp mysql, and then to copy and paste all the ftp content online in the www local host directory, but once I do that I can’t access joomla locally anymore, as there is a message saying that there is an error, is there a correct way to do this? thanks for your time, it is my first migration, and I want to do things correctly. thanks!

So I am a web designer, I design web sites in Photoshop and then I create HTML code. I am great with static web sites but I am not very good at web programming (PHP) and I would like to learn it but really cannot find much time for it lately. So my question is is there a way for me to create my own design in Photoshop/Dreamweaver and then use my own design with CMS solutions like WordPress, Joomla etc… The point is I want to create database websites and update them trough CMS but have my own design used and not those templates that you can find on web for Joomla for example. So is this possible and which CMS solution do you recommend: Joomla, WordPress or some other? Thanks

I have created a joomla site for the first time and love it! I am not getting any response to this in their forum so hopefully YA can help.

I am creating a site for a school and the principle wants to allow staff to submit articles, but not be posted until she approves them. I found out how to link to an article submission form, but when I tried it out and submitted an article, nothing happened. I mean it shows up unpublished in the article manager…but how would the principle know someone submitted an article? Does she get an email or something? because I am currently set as the super administrator and I did not get any type of notification. So how does this work?

I am trying to install Joomla, but as soon as I have uploaded the files and go to index.php it says you must remove Installation folder before you can continue. But I haven’t installed it yet? Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers for the help. I understand that I have to re the installation folder once I have gone through the installation process of linking it to the database etc. The problem I am having is that I cann’t get to the installation process that you normally go through, and then delete the installation folder afterwards. Instead as soon as I upload the file it says delete the installation folder before the process is ran. Hope that makes sense
